“Thank you for believing in what I have to offer
and giving me this extra push to succeed.”
Prentice Whitlow
A Passion to Perform and Teach
Prentice Whitlow is determined to bring the joy of dance to others. And as he approaches graduation, his determination is about to pay off.
When he could not attend college right away after high school, Prentice worked for a year while continuing to dance, teach, and choreograph. He eventually attended a small university in Missouri to study dance for two years before transferring to Mason.
Prentice appreciates the opportunity to work with the guest artists who come to the university. He also values the range of Mason’s program, in which he can both perform and choreograph.
After his transfer to Mason, financing his education was a problem for Prentice. At one point, he was not sure he could afford to finish his degree—until scholarship support made it possible. During the 2007-08 academic year, Prentice received multiple scholarships, including the Amy Kruppenbacher Memorial Scholarship, the Wachovia Bank Arts Scholarship, and an award to assist with purchasing textbooks.
Prentice wants to live up to what he feels are the expectations of success from the donors who have supported him. All signs indicate that he will—the senior, who has made the Dean’s List every semester since he transferred, hopes to eventually become an artistic director.
