Seniors Giving Back to Mason through Initiative
Soon-to-be graduates are making a difference at George Mason through the Senior Scholarship Initiative (SSI), a university-wide fundraising drive that is raising scholarship funds for the generations of students who will follow the Class of 2008.
Participants who give to the initiative will be the first to have their names included on a plaque honoring the contributions of the Class of 2008. The plaque will be on display on the Fairfax Campus.
The SSI campaign marks a first step for seniors in transitioning from student to alumnus. If at least 200 participants from the Class of 2008 give a minimum of $20.08 in honor of their class year, SSI can raise more than $4,000 in scholarship funds. This would top the Student Giving Campaign’s 2007 total of more than $3,000. MORE>

"Don't be Like Larry!"
Several Mason graduates have collaborated to urge their fellow alumni to support their alma mater through the light-hearted cautionary tale of “Larry,” an alum who didn’t give to the Annual Fund.
Todd Donohue, ’93, MS ’03, an Alumni Association Board member, came up with the video’s concept and wrote the script with his wife, Laura (Kidd) Donohue, ’00. Todd appears in the video along with fellow Mason alums David Roe, ’89, MBA ’96 and Isaac Thweatt, ’05. Another Mason grad, David Groves, ’03, filmed and produced the piece.
“Larry” debuted in a video link e-mailed to alumni. Recipients responded with a notable increase in online gifts to the Annual Fund in the seven-day period following the video’s distribution.
Sources say that the alumni community may not have seen the last of Larry’s charitable misadventures...stay tuned. SEE THE VIDEO>
