$142 Million Raised!
de Laski and Kellar Gifts Bring Campaign to Resounding Close
It's now one for the history books: The university's first comprehensive fundraising campaign raised $142 million, significantly exceeding its $110 million goal as well as establishing a new tradition of giving at George Mason. The total raised in support of The Campaign for George Mason University was announced on September 24, climaxing an evening of celebration attended by more than 1,000 alumni, friends, students, faculty, and staff at the Center for the Arts.

Propelling the campaign total during its closing months was a $3 million commitment from Donald and Nancy de Laski to fund the expansion of the performing arts academic facilities on the Fairfax Campus. The gift brings their total campaign support of the arts at George Mason to more than $4 million. And, Arthur and Elizabeth Kellar contributed $1 million to advance the Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities. The Kellars’ campaign support of the institute named in memory of their daughter now totals $4.2 million.

“Together, we have succeeded," said Sid Dewberry, campaign chair and university rector. "Thank you for making this exciting and historic journey a successful one."

What's Next: Targeted Campaigns
Looking beyond The Campaign for George Mason University, the focus will be on targeted campaigns to fund specific initiatives. Among them, the School of Information Technology and Engineering is launching the 2010 Campaign to raise funds for scholarships, faculty support, and a state-of-the-art academic and research building at Fairfax. And, at Prince William, the university and the community are seeking endowment funding to assist in the creation of a world-class performing arts center that will serve the entire region.

The Campaign for Mason Students has also been launched to strengthen and create more comprehensive scholarship packages, student programs, and library resources. As well, private support will continue to be sought for program and faculty assistance.
