A Message from the Dean
The mission of the arts at Mason is to expand opportunities for development, presentation, and appreciation of artistic expression and education within the region by linking the resources and audiences of the university and community.
Our vision for the future is quite simply to be a leading force in our region, state, and nation in the pursuit of excellence in the visual and performing arts.
The arts at Mason bring together our outstanding students and faculty with professional artists from around the world who visit the campus—and connects both our academic and professional opportunities to the vibrant Northern Virginia community.
Our students in art and visual technology, dance, film and video studies, music, theater, and arts management enjoy the intense professional training of an arts conservatory within the context of a major university. They stretch, grow, and learn—guided by a faculty of dedicated artist-teachers who are actively practicing their own crafts at the most renowned venues in Washington, New York, and across the country.
In order to recruit and retain the very best students—which, in turn, allows us to attract the highest quality faculty—expanded scholarship and programmatic support is essential. We are a young and dynamic college within a fast-growing, innovative university. We do not yet have the alumni base that so many schools of the arts rely upon.
