International Outreach and Education

A Message from the Provost

The last few years have demonstrated the importance of global citizenship and the need for understanding the world around us. George Mason University has proven itself to be an innovator and leader in its international outreach and education efforts.

Mason’s student body consists of students and scholars from the far corners of the globe. We consciously attempt to engage each of them on the importance of being globally connected and aware. The university takes pride in our extensive portfolio of programs in locations such as China, India, Indonesia, and South Korea. Mason recently opened its doors to our first international branch campus, located in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates.

In 2006, Mason was the recipient of the Andrew Heiskell Award from the Institute for International Education for its efforts to internationalize its campus, only months after being named “Most Diverse Campus” by the Princeton Review.

Maintaining and continually increasing the quality of Mason’s international programs requires the support of our alumni and friends. There are a variety of opportunities for donor involvement, including:

  • Study abroad scholarships through the Center for Global Education to help support undergraduate and graduate students during an immersive international experience;
  • Financial assistance for our almost 1,800 visiting international students and scholars studying here at our U.S. campuses;
  • Sustaining interdisciplinary research on critical global issues through the Center for Global Studies; and
  • General support for our international programs that enable us to provide a truly global experience for our students.

Your support for current and future programs helps keep George Mason University on the leading edge of campus internationalization efforts.
