Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering
A Message from the Dean

The Volgenau School of Information and Technology at George Mason University stands at a defining point in its history. The years ahead offer unprecedented opportunities for our school to attain a position of national and international leadership.
Now in our third decade and compelled by the School’s mission and dreams for the future, we are boldly engaged in the 2010 Building on Excellence Campaign, our first-ever fundraising effort. The goal is to raise more than $20 million in private support from friends and alumni by June 30, 2010.
The most visible outcome will be a new state-of-the-art teaching and research facility (See the building’s progress on our webcam). This beautiful new structure will be in a prominent location on the Fairfax Campus and will be the university’s first certified green building. The new structure not only creates a home for all of our programs under one roof, it also helps us to establish our position as a nationally recognized university with exceptional programs that attract outstanding students and faculty.
The building will be just one outcome of the 2010 Campaign, as the funds raised will also ensure we can keep moving our innovative programs forward. We are extremely proud of the Volgenau School’s reputation for academic quality, and we are committed to continuing on the path to becoming one of the premier academic and research institutions in the country. With more than 20,000 IT companies based in the Washington region, we are ideally located to forge a distinctive blend of research endeavors, educational resources, and corporate partnerships to benefit our students, the region, and the world beyond.
You are an integral part of our future, and we need your help to ensure the success of both our campaign and the long-term goals for the Volgenau School. For more information about giving opportunities, please contact our Assistant Dean of Development and Alumni Relations, Jennifer Lamb, at 703-993-1752.
